SHS announces Friday game with Dixon canceled parade and October 10 Homecoming Dance moving to Saturday night. Science Club hosts circus themed event from 9 to 12 in the field house with Modernaires. Bonfire pep rally October 8 in the parking lot and plaques will list last year’s winners for beauty originality and humor.
Six seniors Fred Davis Dennis Stewart Jim Loos Marianne Hess Lorraine Thielen and Gloria Kalen attended their first Rotary meeting as Junior Rotarians and Rotary Anns Then six more will be chosen to attend Four foreign exchange students visiting Sterling for the Thanksgiving weekend program were Albert Stoumer from Iran Dorothy Jones from England Mussart Sheikh from Pakistan and Saiyid M Maqvi from Pakistan The Spanish Club elected officers Karen Blanding president Sharon Brauer vice president Chris Shaeffer secretary Pat Brauer treasurer and plans were made for entering a float in the Mexican Fiesta Parade with committees Pat Brauer Sylvia Pineda and Sara Kontos
A Sterling High School group led by Ken ny Small formed a student authored conduct code with staff advisory input. The code aims to guide life on campus with self discipline and respect, urging courteous behavior, study focus, profanity avoidance, and punctuality.
The SHS announces a five dollar activity card granting access to all home football basketball track events and class plays plus summer admission to all A L baseball games for the owner. It excludes conference and state events. At about ten cents per event vs fifty cents ahead, with gate tickets at one dollar. Includes a year’s SCRIPT subscription. Buy one.
Jim Snyder is named the YMCA boys secretary replacing Richard Dittman. He comes from Harvey Illinois where he worked at the Harvey Department of the Chicago YMCA. He aims to coordinate with Hi Y male seniors Co-Ed Youth Council Teen Haven Cabinet and Sterling Rock Falls social events and dances after games. Teen Center open night will continue Tuesday with game room and dancing for students in casual school clothes. An adult sponsors committee will be formed to plan Y events. Mr Tonkin is the faculty representative.
Mourners from Sterling churches filed past the casket at the Sterling YMCA on September 14 for the burial of a former Bible Study Club member. Pallbearers included Dan Marshall, David Casey, John Zaeske, and Darrel Huston with Rev. P. Lynn Miller officiating. Allen arranged the service and the youth group pledged fewer funerals and more fun in 759 while weekly fellowship at the Y continues.
The Freshmen Class elected officers at a recent meeting with David Wheeler as president, Peggy Wooseley as vice president, Gay Elfline as secretary, and Sandy Olsen as treasurer. They plan the annual Freshmen Mixer set for Saturday night, October 3, and are organizing committees while seeking talented freshmen for the entertainment program.
McMurry explained how the freshman sophomore and varsity squads are grouped and the conference setup. He described the training the players receive and the specific methods used in coaching.
