Evelyn Pinckney Marsh will end a 22 year tenure at Sterling Township High School with retirement at term end. The faculty and board honor her at a Rock River country club party tonight, recognizing her English teaching and earlier artistry and teaching abroad.
The senior class chronicles its four years at Township High School from 1939 to graduation. Leaders included Dan Troye, Dorothy Hoener, Keith Brown, and Bill Adams with busy activities such as dances, book reviews, candy sales, and the Prom. The class supported defense stamps, staged plays, and hosted events like the Rhythm Roundup dance and Halloween Frolic. Graduation is slated for June 1 at the stadium followed by a reception at Twin City country club.
The 1943 Sterling High School yearbook Blue and Gold will be distributed to sixth period classrooms tomorrow or Friday. Editor Barbara Bell and Business Manager Keith Brown anticipate the first look as students await a finished volume. The yearbook features imitation leather binding, a padded cover, bright color, and new individual student portraits. 500 copies were ordered and sold. no extras unless final payments are incomplete.
One hundred one Sterling High School seniors will finish four years with the commencement at the stadium Tuesday evening June 1. Baccalaureate services are set for Sunday May 30 at 7 30 p m at St John’s Lutheran Church with three seniors in program and Nellie Hill speaking for the class. Debaters Ibara Bell and Martin Doermann will present a debate topic Onward War World Planning. Rev G H Doermann will speak on Victory of Youth. The Robed Choir will sing Onward Ye Peoples by Jean Sibelius.
