Eighth Annual Whiteside County Track Meet At Stadium

The Whiteside County Track Meet returns Monday night at the stadium on April 26. Sterling, Morrison, Rock Falls and other teams are fielding strong lineups led by Shuman of Morrison and a fast Rock Falls relay squad. The meet promises a close battle with Sterling favored to win but many events expected to be competitive.

White Side County Track and Field Meet Schedule

The Whiteside County Track and Field Meet lists events from 7:00 PM Pole Vault through 9:45 PM 880 Yard Relay. Trials and finals are noted for hurdles and sprints including 120 Yard High Hurdles trials and finals 7:30 and 9:15 respectively.

Junior Red Cross Unit Continues Its Service

The high school Junior Red Cross unit has spent time and energy aiding armed forces. Students sent kits overseas and correspond with English boys. They are collecting pencil stubs for Camp Grant and thank Mr. Timmons and the Art Department for their window display in Sterling.

School Buys $700 Worth Of Stamps, More Needed

War era plea from Sterling Township high school urges students and adults to increase war bond and stamp purchases. Students are invited to pledge weekly stamps through June and report back in fall. Since January 1 1943 the school community has bought 700 dollars in bonds and stamps.

Seniors Host Dessert Dance For Sterling Students

Sterling high school hosted a dessert dance in the gym on a Wednesday noon in April. Students, some with lunches from home or downtown, gathered for dessert and dancing due to rationing. Dorothy Ward and Gloria Paulson led the event with committee help from Pat Gelaz and a team of food and finance volunteers.
