Sophomore Debate Team Competes At Augustana

The sophomore debate team traveled by bus to Augustana on January 27 for a tournament in Rock Island. They stayed at Fort Armstrong Hotel and debated six rounds Friday and three more Saturday morning. The negative team Marylin Miller and Larry Norton won five of six. the affirmative Norma Miller and Jack Reiske won two. They faced Peoria Moline Rock Island Muscatine Petersburg and Davenport, with Freeport West Aurora and Lyons Township High School tying for first place.

Prom Co Chairmen Chosen at Sterling Township High

Junior class selects Kalah Wesner and John Michel as prom co chairs. Prom June 7 at the Coliseum marks last dance before new high school opens. Several committees named for refreshments programs invitations music publicity tickets floorshow and decorations. Soapbox Serenade dance set for Feb 25 with Floorshow and Jimmy Campbell orchestra.

Red Cross Arms School Chest Drive In Sterling Township

The Junior Red Cross Council began work on the school chest. Community High School built the chest and supplied gifts, and Sterling Township students will decorate and finish filling it. The chest aims to send gifts to entire foreign schools rather than to a single recipient.

Round Robin Play Day Involving Five Schools At Coliseum

Tomorrow from 9 00 to 3 00 the Round Robin basketball bowling play day takes place in the Coliseum an annual GAA activity Fifteen neighboring schools send five students and an adviser from each school Events include ping pong and badminton Prizes await winning teams Managers of basketball bowling ping pong and badminton act as the organizing committee and hostesses.

Modern A Club Forms at SHS With Three Aims

A new organization named the Modern A Club has been formed at SHS. Its goals include making friends improving driving skills and fostering teamwork. Meetings are currently held at members homes while a permanent meeting place is sought. Acting president is Pete Thiakos and secretary-treasurer is Dick Nuttall. March Schedule Highlights Regional and State Events

The calendar lists the Dixon region with basketball tournaments from Feb. 8 to Mar. 18 including district, sectional, and state rounds. It also notes a sectional speech contest on Mar. 11 and a F H A banquet on Mar. 14, with music by the Iowa State College Band at 2:20 P.M. on Mar. 20 and a senior dance at month end.

GAA Holds Tournaments With Mixed Class Teams

The GAA organized mixed basketball tournaments with teams of girls from all classes. Results show Team 1 def. Team 2 34 26, Team 3 def. Team 4 28 17, Team 5 def. Team 6 23 7, and other results including Team 3 over Team 2 50 46 and Team 2 over Team 4 32 20. Seniors beat juniors 31 26 and sophomores beat freshmen 14 5.

The Script staff calls on juniors to report for the April issue and help prepare the newspaper for next year. Juniors assisting this year will be ready to publish their own paper next year.

February broadcasts of Teen Talk feature four Hi-Tri girls conducting a student poll on prejudices. The SHS panel plans a March debate, What We Owe Society, with a special offer teased for listeners.

Twirp Season To Be Observed At Local School

Twirp season will be observed during the weekend of March 17 to 19. The event reverses gender roles with girls hosting and guiding the boys for a good evening. If successful it may become an annual affair.
