Sno-Ball Queen Chosen at 1949 Dance in Sterling Gym

The YMCA and YWCA co ed council held the Christmas Sno Ball Dance at Sterling Township High School gym on December 27. Merilyn Wilkinson was crowned Queen with escorts Bill Jurkens Igle Matznick Jean Sonneman Jim Galloway. Wayne Andreas crowned the queen as the Stardusters played. Judges were Wayne Andreas Charles Allen Kenneth Besse. Sponsors included Wayne Andreas Fred Wagner Charles Allen A R DeVoe and others.

New School to Be Ready for Sterling Township High

The project, led by architect Robert Work of Chicago and contractor Paul Kornman of Sterling, is over half complete with target to open in September 1950. Despite steel delivery delays from a Gary producer, underground tunnels, plumbing, heating, lathing, plastering, and room partitions advance while exterior walls rise and décor planning continues.

Rotarians attended a luncheon with members JoAnn Kunde Carlanne Ruck Shirley Humphrey Jack Hall Lyle Marquis and Chuck Deets listed as attendees for the past month.

Formal Band Concert Preview With Dunham First Lead

A formal concert by the band is set for February 2 at 8:00 p m in the Coliseum. Under Darrell Dunham's direction the ensemble will perform light to heavy works including Toy Trumpet and the Finale from the New World Symphony. Featured players include Glen Mortenson Tom Slothower and Tom Griffith with a guest soloist brass quartet and Dunham trumpet solo. Tickets available from band members.

Teen Talk radio forum engages teens on station WSDR

The YMCA and YWCA coed council hosts a two month Teen Talk program addressing teen concerns on air. Past topics include Boy Dates Girl and Parent Child Relationships with special guests from SHS Debating Squad. A Christmas Eve segment featured The Littlest Angel and Hi Tri Hi Y carols.

Spanish Club Chili Supper at Ruth Dudley’s Home

On February 1 the Spanish Club will host a chili supper at Ruth Dudley’s home at 6:00. A short meeting will discuss a party for poor children. The evening includes a brief program and games. All club members are invited.

Dramatic Contest Tryouts Held for N C I C Event in DeKalb

The N C I C Individual Dramatic Contest selects Sterling Township representatives for February 11 in DeKalb. Each school may enter two students per division across Oratory Oratorical Declamation and Extemporaneous Speaking. Competing students include Janice Wagner Jack Reiske Merilyn Wilkinson Marilyn Miller Harry Blaisdell Jane Marrow Warren Thummel Nancy Kunde and Pat Hanson.
