Warriors seeded 2nd in Regional tournament standings
The Sterling Warriors enter the 1971 Regional as the No. 2 seed in the Sterling regional behind Rock Falls with an 8-8 record. They open regional play on March 1 against the Oregon Hawks, a squad coached by former Sterling assistant Del Carr. A win fuels a possible rematch with the Dixon district winner on March 4. The weekend features a doubleheader with Rochelle and Galesburg, including a key NCIC clash at Rochelle, while Galesburg visits Sterling after a 68-53 win over Monmouth. The regional field also includes Dixon as the third seed and Rochelle as the fourth seed, with Rochelle featuring 6'8" Tom Carmicheal and Dave Lockridge, and guards Jeff Truckenbrod, Bruce Johnson, Terry Vanchise, and Jeff Sanderson contributing.
