Warriors seeded 2nd in Regional tournament standings

The 1971 Regional pairings place Sterling as the second seed in the Sterling Regional behind Rock Falls with an 8 8 record. Sterling faces Oregon on March 1 5, with potential matchups against Dixon District winner and Rochelle or Galesburg in forthcoming games. Rochelle’s 6 8 players Tom Carmicheal and Dave Lockridge power scoring and rebounding while guard forward depth includes Truckenbrod Johnson Vanchise and Sanderson. Galesburg ranked 13th in AP poll after a 68 53 win over Monmouth, with past thrillers against Sterling and Streator noted. Sterling’s illness rattle on Fortney Frommelt improved with Dan Fitzgerald scoring 18 in Streator. A Dixon frosh soph shot from half court ended a third quarter, and one technical foul occurred on the Streator bench last Friday.

Frosh Soph continue winning with 14-2 record

The Sterling Braves extended their undefeated run with two wins to move to 14-2 overall and 7-1 in NCIC play. Mel Leseman led scoring with 21 and 23 points against Streator and Dixon as Sterling beat Streator 69-54 and Dixon 81-52.

Sterling High Intramural Basketball Forms Fair, Exciting Season

A large Sterling High intramural basketball program, led by Mr. John Neahring, includes about 200 players from all grades with 120 freshmen and sophomores and 80 juniors and seniors. Teams have been close, some undefeated, aided by a draft system and upperclassmen referees. An end-of-season single elimination tournament for upperclassmen adds drama and a chance for overdue recognition.
