In a February 12 1971 note the SCRIPT staff apologizes for the absence of the school paper and urges student help. It cites minimal staff, few assignments, and meetings with little turnout while announcing an emergency reorganizational meeting led by Mr Yemm to revive the publication and sustain student ownership.
A short poem tells of a spirit born in fall named pride growing through seasons with support then fading in winter. Despite efforts of friends the spirit dies and is laid to rest as spring returns, leaving few loyal observers.
The Junior class selects Mike McCormick and Diane Appenzeller as Prom Co-Chairmen with committees named. A May 22 formal dance is set, and January 16 parents’ meeting covered Post-Prom activities. Co-Chairmen for Post-Prom are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence. A canopy plan for rainy weather was proposed to ensure a premiere entrance.
A SHS interview features the area band Earwax, formerly Zaba, with Frank Ramirez on drums, Dave Musselman on lead guitar, Victor Castaneda on bass, and Dan Cruz on second guitar and vocals. Formed two months ago, they played at school dances and plan bar gigs, aiming to write original music. They perform at the Valentines Dance February 13 and possibly at Newman later this month.
High school bands within 125 miles of Marycrest College Davenport Iowa may enter the Marycrest Stage Band Contest on Saturday April 24 1971. Three judges will evaluate entries and trophies awarded for first and second place. Final results announced at an evening concert. Sanctioned by the Iowa High School Association and limited to 25 members per band. Arrangements possible for ACT test timing at Davenport Central High School for members who participate in the afternoon contest. Supervised by F Mortiboy a noted Midwest bandsman.
