On December 15 the Sterling High School Robed Choir directed by William J. Tonkin performed at St John s Lutheran Church before a full audience. The program featured multiple carols and sacred works by Tschesnokoff Christiansen and Kru.
The high school gym buzzed on December 8 as SHLS staged the senior play January Thaw. The Gage and Rockwood families clash through misunderstandings in a lively performance featuring Jerry Robbins as Mr Gage and Kent Jacobs as Uncle Walter. Bob Twardock appears as Rockwood and Jonathon Rockwood with Kay Hoogeveen as Mathilda, delivering a popular, memorable show.
Miss Krughoff reports a preliminary Hiiness Statewide Testing Program grade results for juniors and seniors. Students may see Miss Krughoff to learn their individual grades.
The Sterling Township High School girls and boys choruses teamed with the Sterling Woman's Club for a Christmas concert at First Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon. Freshmen sang Send Forth Thy Spirit and Oh Holy Night with Lois Ann Good solo, plus Beautiful Savior. Boys performed March of the Magi Gloria in Excelsis Deo and Carol of the Bells. Sophomore Girls offered Hark Now, Poor Mary, and Bells. All groups joined for carols under the club's direction.
School dismisses Friday December 17 for Christmas holidays and resumes January 3. Semester exams are set for January 27 and 28. A school closure on January 31 allows teachers to finish correcting examination papers.
The Spanish Club sponsored a schoolwide Thanksgiving dance on November 24 with guests from the Mor rison High School Spanish Club. Alumni, faculty, and the club president attended while Morris Mintke and his orchestra provided music. A floor show featured The Jama dance by the Capa Club, a rumba by Mexican children, and songs by Capa members. Proceeds will fund a Christmas party for local Mexican American children.
Christmas formal announced for Wednesday December 29 from 8 30 to 12 with an orchestra and community carol sing. Tickets cost 150 a couple or 85 cents for a single. Refreshments provided and a queen will be chosen. On December 18 the Campus Club hosts an all school dance from 8 30 to 11 00 in the gym to boost club programs and Christmas spirit. Admission is 35 cents a couple or 20 cents for a single with refreshments provided by campus volunteers.
Three senior class students are selected every three weeks as Junior Rotarians to attend meetings and connect with Sterling business groups. The latest trio named are Peggy Beach, Carol Challand, and Marilyn Woods.
