Sophomores stage plans for the big winter social with class president Joel Rice leading the effort. Jimmie Campbell's orchestra will provide music for the February 26 event, already a traditional highlight after the junior prom.

Students Enter Speech Contest February 12 at S H S

Nine North Central Conference schools compete in six divisions on Saturday February 12 at S H S. Contestants from S H S include Mimi Sterenberg Jeannie Sonneman Joan Keiser Meri Ion Wilkinson Larry Norton Bob Mathis Joan Elmendorf Marilyn Miller. Judges are William V OConnell and Harriet F Grim.

Students donate bundles for S C F to aid war children

Over three weeks, the Red Cross benefited from fourteen bags of clothing donated by students for Save the Children Federation workrooms. Shoes, coats, sweaters, dresses, and more were collected on Bundle Day and prepared for distribution to needy areas in Europe or rural America. The program targets Austria Greece Finland France and Holland and received broad school support.

Teachers Institute at Sterling to be held February 11

For the first time in several years, Teachers Institute will be held February 11 at Sterling High School. Dr. Sunder Joshi from the University of Chicago will lecture on Real Democracy Can Stop Communism in the morning and Idea weapons Behind Todays Cold Wars in the afternoon. The Robed Choir will present a patriotic program during the morning session.

NBC Sponsors UN Contest for High School Students

NBC sponsors the 23rd Annual United Nations Contest for High School Students. All U S high school students may compete with a written exam on April 1 1949 at local high schools. Prizes include cash awards scholarships trips to the United Nations and Europe plus NBC broadcasts. See Miss Krughoff for details.

Winners Named In Essay Contest At High School

Jeanine Huntley Marian Parker and Lois Kraft won the Elks National Essay Contest on How Democracy Works at the high school. Prizes included 25 war bonds 15 postal savings and 10 postal savings with awards to be presented at a future dinner.

Susie Hoffman Wins DAR Award

Susie Hoffman was chosen as the senior girl for the Daughters of the American Revolution award with Janna Hey and Mimi Sterenberg as runners up. The DAR honors dependability service leadership and patriotism, with state listings and a $100 government bond prize for winners. Susie is active in G.A.A. and co editor of the Script.

Forty Three Men and a Girl Glee Club at Capital University

On February 3 the Capital University Men’s Glee Club of Bexley Ohio presented an entertaining assembly for faculty and students. The 43 men and Miss Barbara Irvine accompanist perform sacred and secular music. founded in 1906 by Professor O A Assenheimer.

Senior Dance After Game Sponsored by Seniors

This evening following the basketball game with Hall Two the seniors sponsor an after the game dance. Admission is 25 cents a couple and 15 cents for a single. Music will be provided by records. Committee includes Mimi Sterenberg as chair and others handling records tickets and refreshments.
