A misc shower was held Monday evening at Elma Bloom’s home for Violet Hughes, a bride to be. Guests exchanged hearts and gifts as games entertained the group before refreshments. The County Organization of Women’s Club plans a convention at Fairbury Presbyterian church on Sept 29 with basket dinner and guest clubs visiting in the afternoon.

Loring Wertz Brown Dies at 87 in Steele City Nebraska

Loring Wertz Brown born May 21 1888 in Newburyport Massachusetts died at 87 years 3 months and 22 days at his daughter Mrs S P Deems home near Steele City Nebraska He had lived in Mendota Illinois Lincoln Lancaster County and Steele City He married Martha Cushman of Wilmington Vermont and had three children Clara M Deems Edwin L Brown and Gilbert S Brown Funeral services were held by Rev Ness at the Deems home and the body laid to rest beside his wife in Lincoln Nebraska.

Oil Drilling Tests Near Thomson and Fairbury

A derrick will be moved to the Livingston farm near Thomson and drilling will begin in a few weeks. An old McDowe farm well near Fairbury is flowing salt water with a trace of gas. A test will determine if it is helium gas used in airships.
