Local briefs recount V Klein moving to Fairbury and Steele City school openings, visits by J E Kerr and Ralph Liebengood, property moves, state fair trips, and community events. Business on hold, stock show prep, and March registration for Nebraska women. A Friesen Jansen auto accident and farewell church notices highlight the week.
Stock City plans a large three day Stock Show and Carnival featuring free attractions and expert judging. Lieutenant Governor Edgar Howard will speak on Saturday. entertainment includes the Black Brothers as well as magician La Plana the Great. entries close October 2 with secretary R S Wilfley coordinating stock pens.
An old style farm advertisement urges farmers to buy pure bred stallions now before prices rise. It claims mares should be bred to produce colts and warns sellers may gain later. The note includes Q and A tone with location as the old prices being current.
An old advertisement claims constipation causes many illnesses and promotes Chamberlains Tablets as a remedy. It states the product will move bowels improve appetite and strengthen digestion and notes availability from all dealers.
F V Lowe delivered Ford cars to E M Foreman Rev H B Allen Wm Garrett and Wm Barber this week and expects more next week. Lowe has contracted for 100 cars for 1918 double last year and foresees twice as many sales due to new 1918 features and stable price. Rev H B Allen and family plan to move to Ord Nebraska for a pastorate. Mina Auld will tend stock on the Allen farm as they depart. Mrs W E Reynolds takes the other four children. Mrs Allen taught one year in the local school and both parents are highly respected in Steele City. Delphia Byall remains with her aunt after her father Mr T G C Byall and mother Mrs C S Clark from Helene Montana visit. Mrs Byall died a month ago.
