Train wreck at Diller slows but injures none

Burlington east bound No. 16 derailed at the Diller switch on ballast unloading with engine 2801 tender and cream and express cars leaving the rails. The track was rebuilt by over fifty workers with one finger mashed. No major injuries reported amid a crowd and wrecker operation.

Miss Catharine Clapp traveled from Lincoln to visit her grandmother Mrs. R. H. Clapp and friend Miss Lila McDonald. She returned home Wednesday accompanied by her grandmother who will stay in Lincoln for a time.

One Church for All at First Presbyterian

Sunday school 10 a.m. church service 11 a.m. Endeavor 7 p.m. preaching 8 p.m. The pastor John E. Filinger welcomes returning and new instructors as the school opens. Hollenberg and McClain families visited Mrs. Mary Cissna this Saturday. Weber siblings moved to Church street while Hollie Algeo family moved from the old house. Mildred Piveral returned to Maryville after visiting Clarence Piveral. Blueford Reddie of Hanover made a business call. Elsie Nebraska visitors came Friday to see relatives in town. Mrs. Will Hanson died Friday with services held in Haddam Sunday.

Vitalized Agriculture Groups Organized At Fairbury

The Vitalized Agriculture groups met at the Fairbury courthouse on August 30 and 31 to organize six groups with trained instructors. About 65 teachers were instructed, including Group I Fruit Growing and Surveying led by Grace Gately and Irene Shanek, Group II Concrete and Uses led by Lissa Fanders, Group III Road Construction led by Eunice Conway, Group IV Machinery and Levers led by Clarence Zeittlow, Group V Leather and Uses led by Clarice Hendricksen, and Group VI Rope and Uses led by Ethel Fox, with multiple leaders named for each.

Steele City Concert by 841st Artillery Band and Drum Corps

A September 19 Steele City program features the 841st Artillery Band of 35 players and the Beatrice Neb Drum and Bugle Corps with 30 players. Under Campbell-Cline Post 349 The American Legion and local business sponsors the one and a half hour concert followed by the movie Ben Hur. Admission 1b and 30c.
