Russell Bryant improves gradually. R T Garrett loses a valuable horse Sunday. Numerous residents, including Harry Allen family and Mrs. John Pickering, spend time with relatives in Fairbury and Denver. Fragments note visits, trips, and gatherings across towns like Lincoln Hanover and Beatrice with several social calls and farm happenings.
Steele City plans a carnival at the schoolhouse Friday evening November 2 with exhibits in every grade. Examinations for teachers will be held at the high school assembly room Saturday November 21 after obtaining a number from the County Superintendent. The Girl Reserves meet November 21 at the high school assembly room with Miss Hulda Yung on the program.
Jefferson county reports corn at 22 bushels per acre this year with 91 percent grade. Nebraska shows better than expected yields while Richardson and Boyd counties show wide variation. Potato output small with high yield components for sugarbeets in Nam areas and a harvest condition listed at 105 percent. Apple production around 31 and 481000 units.
State Teachers Association attendees from here traveled to Lincoln for meetings on Thursday and Friday. The school was dismissed Wednesday noon.
A local note urges a long-awaited festival or indoor entertainment for the region. Free picture shows are proposed but cinema prices may deter merchants. Suggestions call for special attractions and a merchants or commercial club to organize local improvement and growth efforts.
A radio program was broadcast from the Harris radio house at Fairbury on Wednesday evening by remote control from Oak station KFEQ.
Notice shows an advertisement inviting women to visit Saturdays for measurements for new dresses or coats. Garments promised to fit and be guaranteed satisfactory.
The Rev. Kearns is expected to be here to fill the pulpit next Sunday. Everyone should attend church services. Rev. Kearns has been giving very pleasing and interesting sermons.
State Line News notes visits from Cecil Caulk and family in Dodge. B L Mowry and kin from Junction City Kansas spent Friday with the Mowry home. Frank Rathbun and family visited their daughter at Steele City on Sunday. Jess Davis and family visited Vern Justic. Cecil Caulk and others shared Sunday dinner at Daykin with Alfred Rosener and families. Jess Davis delivered hogs and cattle to market at Hollenberg Monday.
The corn husking contest scheduled for last Saturday was abandoned due to bad weather. Postponing again would have made the winner ineligible for the state contest.
The Ladies Aid plans a supper and bazaar at the hall on December 2 with fancy work and a general sale to raise funds.
Wallace Palmer spent the weekend with home folks. Miss Zelia Deputy of Beatrice visits Mrs. Chester Pethoud. Mrs. Arner and children drive to Lincoln Thursday returning Sunday. C. L. Clark at Powell earlier in the week, via Belvidere. LADIES AID meets at North Church on Wednesday November 18. C R Bracken ill after Tuesday night, slowing store duties but improving now. Armistice Day passes quietly in Steele City with bank closure and flags on display.
Sunday visitors include Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kennin and family at John Janssen's home. Genevieve Cuthbert of Harbine stays with grandmother to assist corn husking for the Jansens. John Janssen's business trip to Fairbury. Glen Schmitt visited Mario Adama. Clare Cuthbert husking on his farm this week. Malady and Roe family visit Charley Compton. Mae Breazell spending week in Fairbury with Eva. Orville Belding family enjoyed Sunday at Earl Nutter's.
