Mrs Garrells Wins Flour Contest at Hughes and Zoellin
A public contest at Hughes and Zoellin Store offered a large sack of flour as first prize. The sack weighed 251 lb 4 oz and Mrs Garrells’ guess of 250 lb 10 oz won the top prize. Mrs Silkett took second with 50 lb and Carl McDonald third with 25 lb. Nearly 300 guesses were submitted and the display drew crowds.

Rain ends drought with weekend storms and memorial procession
Rain broke a long dry spell with two plus inches falling Saturday through Monday night. Nearby hail caused some damage farther west. Knights of Pythias members gathered Sunday to attend a memorial day sermon by Rev. W. W. Pfautz and then visit the cemetery to decorate deceased members’ graves.

Boy Nearly Drowns in Swollen Creek Near Pearson Farm
Earnest Pearson, son of Mr and Mrs Chester Pearson, rode home with cows and crossed a rising creek on Sunday evening. The current swept the horse and boy downstream before he reached the far bank. His parents heard the shouts and arrived quickly to pull him to safety in a near tragedy.
