Local notes report visits from Jesse Hunnicutt from Diller and Walter Lenker from Endicott with others from Minden, Endicott, and Fairbury. A hay-barn construction north east of town started Tuesday. weather slowed harvest as rain dampened wheat and oats. Death of Mr. A Broadston noted, funeral plans pending. grain storage restricted by Nebraska law.
Alfalfa boasts steady returns and strong stock gains as crops praise healthy livestock. The Omaha Grain Exchange reports the first car of new wheat sold for 1.17 per bushel on July 22 with first class quality. Local reports cite threshing activity, yields per acre, and a Steele City obituary for Asa Edward Phelps born 1852 in Newton Michigan, died 1915 in Brooklyn.
Reverend E H Hinkle united William Bennett of Endicott and Neva Kelley of Steele City in marriage at the Methodist parsonage on July 28. The couple, described as prosperous farmer and refined graduate, received best wishes from Mr and Mrs Gee W Reynolds and their baby present at the ceremony.
Steele City moves toward 24 hour electric service after bids from about twelve firms. Kosmeyer Co. of Lincoln wins line construction and materials, McGraw Co. of Omaha the generator and switchboard, and Stover Co. of Freeport for the engine. Board to sign contracts. construction to take about days.

A mail sack was stolen east of town from Rocky Island train No 8 and found in a farmer’s alfalfa field. The July 6 parcel mail showed signs of rifling and was sent to a Kansas City inspector. Separately, Rev M C Wilcox reported his son George’s June 29 Alexandria Egypt letter describing the Tennessee cruiser trip and a May 31 marriage in Alexandretta Syria to Ruth Tavender.
