Church calendar lists services at 10 A M 11 A M and 7 30 P M with morning and evening worship on a new date replacing a later plan. Parsonage and lawn announcement indicates a change in venue for the evening service.
Mrs H Manning and six members of the Good Will club motored to Lincoln Saturday night to spend the weekend with Miss Roberta Jones. The party was hosted at Miss Jones home with hospitable entertainment. A lunch at the Golden Candlestick followed before returning home in the late afternoon.
A heavy downpour began around midnight Tuesday and continued into Wednesday morning. The storm dropped 1.6 inches of rain with substantial hail damaging corn in several fields while some areas were harder hit. Severe electrical discharge accompanied the rain but no lightning damage reports have reached us. The rain reduces drought conditions and benefits late corn and pastures.
Threshing began last Thursday in the vicinity with Mr. Wilson starting at G B Cansel's place where wheat averaged about 23 bushels. Yields are good with some fields at 81 bushels, including Harry Coons's field.
The Kitchen Orchestra plays at Shea Tuesday night in their third appearance, following two prior shows here and at Shea and leading the Fourth of July parade.
The Ladies Aid met on Wednesday July 6 at Mrs J L Davis home with nineteen members present. The treasurer reported 110.29 in treasury. The Jelly Bastar was discussed for Palmer's Disamery on Saturday afternoon July 16. The officers chosen were Mesdames Manning and Antrews and Phelps.
Clark's announces a 14 day cash sale from July 15 to July 30 with reduced prices across large stocks of shoes dry goods straw hats and men furnishings. Groceries include bargains on canned foods fast foods soap and chinaware. No premiums offered and early purchase improves stock selection.
Mr and Mrs C T Whitney and Harold left by auto last Thursday for western Nebraska and South Dakota. They stopped at Sutherland to call on Rev and Mrs Davis former minister and wife of Steele City, then arrived at Hemingford Saturday. They plan to be away several weeks visiting the Black Hills of Dakota.
Frank Crinkian suffered burns to his face and arms last Thursday when a trash burning fire near Coons farm was blown onto him while using gasoline. He is healing rapidly as of now.
Paul Hoeft held a public sale of household goods Tuesday afternoon and will move to Spokane Washington, stopping at Grand Island to collect his mother and sister. Floyd Hoeft plans to go to Grand Island for the time being as the two brothers quit the garage business.
The federation urges campers to spare wild flowers shrubs and trees and keep campsites pleasant. Do not burn leaves or rotten wood near logs or trees and never abandon burning material. Always trench around fires and leave camp clean with dead embers. Most fires stem from carelessness rather than lightning.
