The Fourth of July celebration in the city aims for grand scale with merchants reopening stores to serve a large crowd. Organizers plan extensive activities throughout the day, hoping for a gala event with full participation and enthusiasm from residents.
The D of H held a shower at their last meeting in honor of Mrs Line Richardson and Minnie Rogers. Beautiful and useful gifts were given. Slice cream and cakes were served by the committee. Three new members were welcomed at the gathering.
Local notes detail visits and travel across Steele City and nearby towns including Edgar Lincoln Fairbury and Diller. Community includes church events, a fair notice of the Nebraska State Fair September dates, road projects, local shops and services, and multiple social visits and travels among residents.
A public meeting of the congregation and others is scheduled for Thursday July 9 in the evening. All are invited to discuss church and community matters of interest. Refreshments will be served. No corrections or prior notice. Your presence is requested.
The Woman's Miss to 17 percent SecC iety meets at the home of Mrs Gretzinger on June 8. Every lady cordially invited to attend.
Miss Elsie Babcock and Mr. Carl Barber from Steele City surprised friends by quietly slipping away Wednesday afternoon to Fairbury for a wedding at the Presbyterian parsonage. The couple and their friends wish them happiness and prosperity.
Brenneis James Ellen James and Mr Ca E Brenneis were united in marriage on Tuesday June 30 by Judge Lloyd. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs A B James with sisters Misses Katie Brenneis Mary and Martha James. The groom is the son of Mrs Joseph Brenneis a World War veteran and farmer. They left for Yellowstone National Park for their honeymoon.
