The week brings sales, weddings, illness, and an impending hog sale. The community features sporting results, weather hints, and church services.

Soldier in 858th Infantry and gassing incidents

The note recounts a son of Mr and Mrs A B James from southwest Steele City who joined Company M 858th Infantry on Sept 24 1917 and later served in the 140th Machine Gun Company and the Medical Department. He was gassed in October and again in November, staying three days in hospital. A December 21 letter said he was in Densborn Germany. A separate item mentions a light plant cylinder head delivery after engine repairs and a community school gathering hosted by Mr and Mrs Wilfley with teachers and board members to discuss school welfare amid a stray child remark.
