Practical gift ideas listed include gloves stationery towels table scarves rubber aprons rayon lingerie garter sets handkerchiefs towel sets coats dresses flowers and more for women. For men items cover blazers hose shirts hats caps mittens sweaters ties handkerchiefs sleepers belts and blankets. Also noted are knit sets booties felt slippers and various novelties.
A three inch snow covered the ground then melted to sun as residents visit relatives attend games and note small ads. Local births marriages and moves are recorded, including the Hunnicutt siblings marriages and a temperance worker’s death in Fairbury.
Community excitement grows over construction of a Presbyterian church with Rev J W Pressly of Omaha to lead the service at the morning hour. The Moon & Son Monument Co. provides a premium stone engraved with worship and foundation messages linking Chester Andrews Memorial Foundation.
The newly organized Onaway Club met at Mrs. Fay Clark home Monday afternoon with all members present. They sewed and socialized, then enjoyed refreshments. The club honors members with birthday or wedding anniversary gifts, and Mrs. Arner and Mrs. H. Packer received presents for their anniversaries.
A Christmas program and pie and lunch social are set at the Mandeville school in District 88 three miles east of Steele City on Wednesday night December 22. Popcorn and home made candy will be available. Organizer Irene Shanek invites the community to join.
Steele City Presbyterian Church announces Sunday School at 10 A M service at 11 A M Christian Endeavor at 7 P M evening service at 7 30 P M mid week Wednesday 7 30 and choir rehearsal at 7 30. Reverend W W Pfautz presiding.
The December meeting was held December 3 at Mrs. Kendall's home. Devotionals centered on Christmas with selections by evangelists. Members read poems and Christmas pieces. A sidewalk improvement on school grounds was noted with balance work tentatively placed for spring. Mrs. Beatrice Arnold reported on the National Convention in Los Angeles. The National WCTU added 53,504 members in the past year.
The article notes a slow downfall of rain and sleet that froze on the ground Sunday night into Monday, making walking and driving dangerous. Many people fell on sidewalks while cars skidded. a minor collision occurred involving a car driven by Franzen and Mr. Goehrie, with damage to a running board and front axle.
