Local items note travels and visits of residents from Fairbury Steele City and surrounding towns. C F Scharmann and Rev Norwood move and visit, teachers appointed to Genoa Philips county, and town improvements. Community announcements include church services, sales, staffing, and upcoming Steele City Stock Show dates.
Last Saturday the school board hired Prof. R Hoff as superintendent of Steele City schools for next year. Prof. Engleman sought release after receiving a new offer at the State Normal at Kearney, and the board granted release, citing a good opportunity for the young man. Hoff comes well recommended by the state superintendent and has twelve years of experience as a superintendent.
A public meeting in the opera house approved Steele Citys three day stock show and carnival for October 19 20 and 21 with a goal to make it an annual event. The finance committee reported 385 subscribed and plans to raise more funding for the first venture. The event will include stock shows and women s departments with amusements for youths and plans for program bills to be printed later.
Reuben Taylor who worked for Rev. Allen a couple of years ago visited Steele City friends a few days the first of the week. He attended the agricultural college at Ames Iowa the past year and returned there from here. Born to Mr and Mrs Chag Hunnicutt on Monday August 21 a daughter. Born to Mr and Mrs John Wehling living 64 miles southeast of here on Tuesday August a boy.
