Fire destroys Laughlin home in Steele City blaze
About eight o clock Monday evening a gasoline lamp exploded in Alfred Laughlin's residence near Steele City. The fire consumed the building and all contents, leaving Laughlin and his daughter destitute. The 14 year old suffered burns while trying to stop the gasoline flow. A local subscription of around 800 was raised Tuesday to help rebuild, with some labor offered as well.

The village elected W. C. Bundy L. S. Peterson and G. E. Wright to two year terms and A. Broadston to fill a one year vacancy. A separate ticket existed but no contest on either ticket while bonds for a town hall were defeated 28 to 41. 71 votes cast with two tickets receiving no bond votes.
