An eight year old boy, Thornberry of Haskell, drowned while wading at the Clear Fork of the Brazos River in Leeders. Rescue efforts lasting over two hours failed. Funeral held at Haskell Baptist Church with Rev. H R Whatley officiating. burial in Rochester cemetery. Survivors include parents Mr and Mrs R E Thornberry, a brother Burlis, a sister Geneva, and grandparents Mrs W M Sweatman and Mr and Mrs R L Thornberry.

Rev EF Bowen presiding elder of the Stamford district Methodist Church and his wife were feted after returning from a Colorado honeymoon. A Thursday afternoon surprise party at the district parsonage honored them, followed by a Friday reception at St John’s Church with music, readings, and a decorated men’s classroom. Cotton ginning in Stamford for the new season reached 1 038 bales by noon Thursday, up from 508 at the same hour last week. The market rose $3 per bale on the government estimate, with middling thirty‑inch grade selling at 12.17. About half of ginned cotton is middling and half strict middling. government estimate is 11 121,000 bales versus 12 485,000 previously, down 1 864,000 due to breadth damage in the cotton states.

Small Mother Doe Adopts Waif Kitten
Roota the Spiz dog belonging to Mr and Mrs R F Stagner at 682 East Moran Street has adopted a two weeks old black kitten abandoned by its mother. The dog cares for and feeds the kitten while the Stagners and Ed Barnhill work on a name for the tiny feline.

The Carnegie Library received two donations this week. The Two-and-Twenty Club of Stamford gave Compton's Pictured Encyclopedia, 15 volumes, from a preserved fund, while the Business and Professional Women's Club contributed $10 for books. John R. Estes Fatally Shot While Dove Hunting
John R. Estes sixty former assistant chief of police and Stamford resident for eighteen years was accidentally killed during a late Tuesday dove hunt. An inquest returned a verdict of accidental death. Estes slipped on a dam near College Lake and his 12 gauge shotgun discharged, striking the heart. He hunted alone but was seen earlier nearby by Royce Carrigan and Stanley Cook. He lived at 619 East McHarg Avenue and was born August 20, 1876 in Crockett. He married Mica Hattie Mae Romaine thirty one years ago and leaves a widow, two daughters, a son, a grandchild, two brothers and a sister. Interment was in Highland Cemetery.

New School Bus Fast OF City To Be Inangurated
A new bus route to Stamford High School will carry students from Erleasdale Swenson Pleasant Valley communities. The service starts next week per W G Swenson president of the Board of Education. This is the third bus link to Stamford schools serving multiple nonlocal districts.

Members of the St Johns Methodist church board of stewards dined with Pastor TF A Reed and Mrs. Reed in the church Doreas room on Monday night. Twenty one board members attended as Mrs Reed and several helpers served a planned meal. Afterward the regular monthly business session was led by Chairman J A Smith. FP Upshaw reported a $1500 deficit and conference claims balance. a board member was tasked with raising $56 plus the pastor's amount to cover the total.
