More than 500 Stamford youngsters attended the Exchange Club's Sunshine Special at the Texas Cowboy Reunion grounds after a Friday afternoon parade led by the Sunshine Special engine driven by O G Lewis. Activities included horseback riding swimming games and pony rides with Mrs Byron Lewis and others assisting.

Plans Made For Red Cross Work In Stamford
E Glenn Griffin of the American Red Cross met Stamford officers at city hall to coordinate home and farm accident prevention and a roll call. Jim McCulloch was named chair of the home and farm accident program as part of Red Cross efforts. A 600 member roll call target was set for Stamford, with Rayford Hills optimistic about meeting it. The Red Cross Courier will circulate in Stamford area schools and libraries, and knitters will prepare beanies for veterans hospitals. Attendees included J K Brady and several local leaders.

Dedication and opening of Texas Hall of State at Dallas grounds for the Texas Centennial Exposition will occur at 8 p m on Saturday September 5. Governor Allred declares September 5 a state holiday for attendance with guests including state officials judges and citizens. Former Governor Pat Neff will deliver principal address and Nathan Adams will speak for Dallas and Exposition leaders.

Mrs. S. A. Touchstone, 53, died after a several weeks illness at Stamford Sanitarium. Funeral held at Tuscola Methodist Church with Rev. Parmenter and Rev. Young directing. interment in Macabee cemetery. She lived on the Wedeking farm near Stamford, born February 3, 1843 in Oklahoma, survived by husband and 12 children including W. C. Touchstone, Iris, Noble, Grady, Elvin, Jack, Bill, Daryl, Bobbie Coy, and three daughters. Funeral home was Barrow.

Ginners estimate 5,000 to 7,000 bales more this fall. townwide guesses center near 6,000. County production projections range from 25,000 to 40,000, with potential for 60,000 if a good spell arrives.

Twelve Pass Red Cross Life-Saving Tests at City Pool
Twelve persons, five seniors and seven juniors, passed life-saving tests given by Red Cross examiners Vera Steely and Syd Russell Jr. at the municipal swimming pool in August. Frank M. Locke has resigned as secretary of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce to return to McWhiter & McClure of Abilene selling Allis Chalmers road machinery in this territory. Mrs H W Seay 64 died of a heart attack at her East Reynolds Street home Sunday at 10 am. Rev W Fielder of Anson led the service at New Hope Church with burial in New Hope Cemetery. Kinney Funeral Home. six daughters, eight sons, forty-one grandchildren among survivors. She was born August 1, 1872 in Alabama and had lived in Jones County five years.
