West-Tex Cabinet & Fixture Company plans a new 84 by 48 foot frame building with slate roof at the Haskell street and Highway 30 corner. C C Bickford, manager, says the plant will focus on store fixtures and showcases, with continued mill work, and will be the most modern in the area. The firm has already installed Stamford Made Fixtures in Sanders Confectionery, Jack and Jill, and Inter’s Pharmacy in Hamlin.

Fourth Lake Dam Breaks After Heavy Rains
Heavy rains last week caused the No. 4 Lake dam on a Paint Creek tributary to breach on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. The Swenson Land and Cattle Company owned the lake, leased to the Forty-and-Eight American Legion branch as a fishing and hunting resort. Volunteers tried to stop the torrent with sandbags and cement, but floodwaters washed out efforts. Highway traffic was disrupted on No. 18 below the dam for days. No. 30 remained open. Thousands viewed the break. many fished the swift waters and pools below, with several large catfish reported. Lake No. 4 had been Stamford’s main water source for years and was expected to be repaired soon once ground dried.

Mystery Killing Sought in Stamford Sanitarium Case
Paul Glenn 17 was shot and killed Monday night at the Stamford Sanitarium after visiting with Dave McCauley, a sanitarium employee. Police accuse McCauley of murder though officials suspect possible accidental firing. McCauley fled after the shot, and no arrest clues have emerged. Paul Glenn, a Stamford High sophomore, is survived by his parents and one brother. funeral services were held at St. John’s Methodist Church.
