Funeral Service For Avoca Soldier Conducted Monday
Cpl. Raymond Dillard age 19 was killed in a California car crash last Wednesday. A large crowd attended the Avoca Baptist Church service Monday at 4 30 p m with military rites by local posts. Burial followed at Spring Creek cemetery. Dillard, born December 19 1991 in Avoca, had served since 1949 including six months in England. He is survived by his parents a sister and a brother in Tokyo Japan plus grandparents of Paris Texas.

Lamar Sorgee began work Tuesday as substitute clerk carrier at the Stamford post office. FE B Britton, postmaster, announced Sorgee has been Western Union manager here until Saturday. Sorgee started with Western Union ten years ago as messenger and served through World War II except for three years in the war. He returned to be manager after discharge.
