Milburn McCarty Eastland attorney was elected president, Herbert Hilburn Plainview publisher first vice president, and E K Faucett Del Rio ranchman second vice president. Mortuary Rites Held For M L Ratliff 87 In Stamford
Funeral services for M L Ratliff 87 retired farmer were conducted Saturday at the Church of Christ with John M Rice minister officiating. He died Friday at 11 55 am after a stroke Tuesday night. Burial was in Highland cemetery with Kinney Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include his widow Mary Ratliff five sons three daughters and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was born in Tennessee October 19 1849 and moved to Jones county twenty five years ago from Garden City ficando

Goodyear Store Set for West McHarg Avenue Opening
Goodyear Service, retail division of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, leases the first floor of the K P building on West McHarg avenue from the Culbreath estate for a new store. W S Roe will manage and expects opening within ten days to two weeks after remodeling begins. Roe, formerly of Sherman, will move with his wife and six year old daughter Patricia Ann to Stamford. Other new Stamford businesses are planned, including a venture in the Larche building. The Crumps plan to relocate their cafe to the Upshaw building at the square, with the front remodeling underway.

Oil operators show growing interest around Stamford with leasing near the city limits and a Dallas based geophysical crew surveying 20 miles northwest. The Forrest Development Co offered 1 dollar per acre for a 100 acre city farm lease near the sewer plant, which the city council rejected last Friday. A Danciger Oil well drills north of town on Dr E A Pardue property. Twenty two men from Petty Geophysical Engineering Co of San Antonio arrived to map subsurface geology, following a prior Geophysical Service Inc crew that completed its survey and moved on.

The municipal swimming pool will open for the 1947 season Sunday afternoon. City manager R. G Bowdry announced the opening.
