Stamford Electric Cooperative elects three to board at annual meeting

Stockholders of Stamford Electric Cooperative elected R. P. Nunneley Weldon Walker and Louis Spitzer to the board at the annual meeting. Nunneley received a plaque for 28 years as director and was reelected secretary treasurer. The meeting highlighted a barbecue and music. The cooperative serves over 4000 customers across six counties.

Two Contests in April Elections for City and School Board

Voters face two contests among three elections with 10 positions across three local governing bodies. City election April 1 and school board April 5 feature two contested races while hospital election is uncontested. Louis Johnson and Duyane Medford seek police chief. John Harrell and Lynn White seek school board. Other offices are uncontested. Hospital board has four incumbents: Don Rose, F. E. Upshaw, Gene Swenson, Earl Smith.

SHS Golf Invitational Slated At Country Club

Stamford High School hosts its Invitational Golf Tournament at the Country Club on Monday and Tuesday March 24 and 25. Division I and II schools compete across the two days with divisions I B and A on Monday, II 2A on Tuesday morning, and III 3A and 4A on Tuesday afternoon.

Voter registration totals released for Jones County

Roy L. Lane, Jones County tax assessor-collector, released March 1 figures showing 6626 registered voters in Jones County. Precinct tallies range from 87 in Stithh to 202 in Centerline, with 1125 in West Anson and 1114 in Hamlin- Nevida, highlighting registration deadlines of 30 days prior to elections.

SHS Hosts District 5-AA One-Act Play Contest

Stamford will host the District 5-AA one-act play contest Friday with six schools presenting plays at Stamford High School auditorium starting 3 p.m. Each performance occurs about every 45 minutes. admission is 1 for students and 1 50 for adults between plays. Stamford Man Charged in Fatal Auto Crash

A 31 year old Stamford man faces felony murder with a motor vehicle charges after a March 9 two car collision on Texas 6 in front of Teakwood Manor killed 84 year old Charles Workman. Workman was turning into the nursing home parking lot when the crash occurred. Davis was intoxicated at the time and three passengers in his car were injured. Investigators cited Officer J T Whitworth and Trooper Donald Van Zandt. A separate burglary case involves Manuel Pryor Jr. and Holden Glen Griffin faces DWI second offense with illegal firearm possession.

Stamford City Seeks Bids on Bond Project

The Stamford city council calls for sealed bids by 1 30 p m April 4 for a paying project approved by voters in last November s bond issue. Bids opened at the April council meeting.
