National Guard officers awarded the contract to construct a rifle range three miles west of Stamford on land leased from Swenson Brothers. R. A. Fuqua and Floyd Wiley to perform the work, at an estimated cost of about $400. Stamford’s local guard unit seeks 25 additional enlisted men. Captain F. E. Hardwick calls a leaders’ meeting tonight.

Mrs. S J Rhodes died March 10 at 6 50 am at her daughter Maggie Rushing s home in Tuxedo She was born February 2 1842 in Alabama and lived in Falls and Jones counties with her husband before his 1907 death Interment was at Highland cemetery Friday at 3 30 pm led by Rev W C Moffett and Rev R A Stewart She is survived by five children thirty three grandchildren and several siblings with final rites by Barrow Undertaking.

McRimmon Place Damaged by Sunday Fire
A North Swenson avenue residence owned by Mrs D McRimmon and occupied by the Kit Knowles and J N Kinney families was badly damaged by fire and water Sunday afternoon. Firemen saved the building from total destruction. The blaze is believed started by a flue. The families were away at the time.

Nearly Thousand Phone Connections In Stamford Now
The Southwestern Bell Telephone Company added 57 stations to its central office in Stamford last year. On January 1, 1908 there were 846 telephones and by January 1, 1927 there were 412 telephones in service. District Manager J. C. Pinson says the Bell System plan for Texas includes more than 7,000 miles of new long distance cable and 174,000 miles of wire in central office areas with about 5 million dollars to be spent in expansion. Stamford will see further improvements in the year, including plant facilities and wayf resources.
