Radio Station Opens at First Baptist Stamford Assures Local Broadcast
The First Baptist Church in Stamford inaugurates a self built intrastate radio studio after two years of failed remote links with Wichita Falls KGKO WBAP Fort Worth WFAA Dallas and XER Coahuila Mexico. A noon broadcast featured the church orchestra under Joe Meacham and a Bible message by Rev Sam Morris. Evening service saw eleven baptisms and a pipe organ program by Mrs. W B Tyman. Dolly Payne Dies. Stamford Leader Had Long Civic Involvement
Dolly Payne prominent Stamford businessman and civic worker died at his home after a long illness. Born in Coryell County Texas in 1874 he lived in Mason County and Abilene before moving to Stamford as manager of the Wooten Grocer Company. He served on the Stamford School Board and led the Chamber of Commerce as president in 1930. Funeral services were held at his residence with burial in Abilene.

Pioneer Lueders Man R H Herrick Is Buried Tuesday
R H Herrick longtime Lueders teacher and pioneer resident died Monday at 1 05 p m after a long illness following a fall. Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p m at the Methodist church conducted by Rev A O Hood. Herrick, born December 21 1851 in Cleveland Ohio, married to Mary Francis Booth in 1886, moved to Texas in 1872 and to Lueders in 1903. He is survived by three sons Herman Ralph and Frank, burial in Highland cemetery Stamford. Kinney Bros supervised burial with pallbearers Swede Seaman C Withers Arthur Fitzgerald A Mitchem K E Fitzgerald and B Tunnell and flower girls Mesdames E Smart C Withers Johnnie Sparks A Fitzgerald Swede Seaman Guy Douthit.

P P Berthelot Laid To Rest In Stamford Friday
The funeral for P P Berthelot who died Thursday afternoon March 2 was held at Kinney's Funeral Home Friday at 4 p m Rev Paul Mosler of Seymour conducted the service with Rev C R Hooton of Stamford singing a solo. Burial followed in Highland cemetery. Active pallbearers included A J Swenson and others. honorary pallbearers were listed from New York City and Texas. Berthelot survived by wife, son Paul in Houston, a stepson Newell Berry in Houston, a sister Mrs Bojac of Bakersfield and a brother John Berthelot, formerly of Stamford. Out-of-town attendees included Clifford B Jones and Ronald A Shand parties from Spur and De Leon.

Norma York Pledged To Literary Club
Special to the Stamford American Miss Norma York the Stamford daughter of Mr and Mrs L M York was among fifty girls pledged by the Mary Eleanor Breckenridge Club at the Texas State College for Women during pledge week in February 2025. The club formed in 1904 aims at mutual improvement through literature science arts and social life for CIA women. Four scholarships of twenty five dollars each are given annually to deserving CIA students.

Burglars forced entries to Radford Grocery Co storehouse Saturday night or Sunday morning and left two sacks of tobacco behind. They escaped before finishing the job, taking only a few boxes of cigars while leaving an overcoat and slicker, and tools later traced to the section house wearers Ed Dodson and Marvin Doss reported the break-in.

Stamford Schools Face Crisis Without State Apportionment
A Stamford school board letter warns the district faces a six month term in 1933 34 unless Texas maintains a per capita apportionment of at least 17.50. Using 1932 census 1181 pupils the state would provide 18496 for three months, while 1933 funds at 3.00 per pupil would yield 9448, cutting nine or more months of schooling unless support rises. Citizens urged to write to representatives in Austin Texas.
