The senior class of Stamford High School presented Little Miss Hitch-Hiker in the high school auditorium last Friday night. The three act comedy featured 12 performers led by Mildred Hood as the hitch-hiker with a swift plot and strong cast. Blue Moon Troubadors opened the show, and the evening included musical numbers by Joe Barnes Frank Musil Jr and Billy McDonald along with readings and instrument solos by Doris Jacks and Charles Bandeen.

Stamford Red Cross chapter reports total relief donations of 524.51 to the American Red Cross for flood refugees. Treasurer Tom Upshaw Jr. said 133.01 was mailed Tuesday with 391.50 sent earlier. Alma Lee Thompson Dies at 15 in Stamford
Alma Lee Thompson a Stamford girl born March 28 1921 died at home of her grandparents in Stamford after years as a diabetic. A high school freshman she had left school due to illness. Funeral was held at St John Methodist Church with burial in Highland Cemetery. Survivors include her mother Pearl Thompson and father B L Thompson, two brothers Billie and Ray Dean, and grandparents Mr and Mrs H A Turner.

The home of Mr and Mrs W H Plant at 308 South Anson street was practically destroyed by fire about 5 30 Wednesday afternoon. Some furniture was saved. Loss valued at 1000 for the house and 500 to 600 for the furniture Fire Marshal C L Meeker said the Plants were away when a train crew member turned in the alarm The booster tank helped control the blaze until two hose lines could be laid Fire Chief Dick Rowland commended the firemen for their quick work.

Mrs J N Wiley aged 82 died at the family home 301 South Anson Wednesday night after a stroke earlier that afternoon. Funeral arrangements await her son J D Wiley of Phoenix. service likely at Funston. Born Martha Whaley in Georgia August 24 1854 she married Jasper Newton Wiley in Belton in 1871 and lived in Anson since 1907. Survivors include four sons, four daughters, two daughters in Temple and Phoenix, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Construction of Baptist Church Building Begins
The Memorial Baptist church starts work on a brick veneer house of worship at McHarg and Person streets, a T shaped structure with a Sunday school wing and auditorium. Basement work is underway, three months to completion, occupancy hoped for by June. The project costs about 15500 dollars and will seat 610 in the main hall and 625 in the Sunday school.

Break Down of Pump Adds More Trouble to Water Situation
The salt water well pump at the city water treatment plant near Lueders broke last Friday worsening Stamford’s water crisis. River water treatment began after flood water in the reservoir ran out, forcing a shift to temporary hardness removal. Improvements underway include installing heavier pumping equipment for the salt well, with relief not expected until new equipment is in place or river floodwater returns Stamford to its former water quality.

D T Perkins manager of Stamford Compress was struck with an iron bar as two men tried to steal his car in front of the hospital about 11:15 Tuesday night. The attackers fled after the struggle. Compas and Kimball were arrested Wednesday in connection with the attack and store robbery.

Three trustees for the Stamford Independent School district will be elected April 3. The outgoing members W G Swenson Ed Jones and FR A Russell have agreed to stand for re election. Judge K. Thomas told Stamford Rotarians that county relief funds and programs neglect Stamford while dumping relief clients into the city. He cited 125 families left without support after WPA work ended and urged coordinated relief from the county city and WPA. J.
