Chester B. Wallace of Durant was found dead from gunshot wounds in Wichita Falls after living in Durant for 16 years. He was 45, survived by a wife, four sons, three daughters, three brothers, four sisters, his mother, and two grandchildren. Mrs. Alyce Daniel of Stamford, the Stamford American editor, is his sister. Funeral services were held in Durant. police and coroners investigated the case.

Dr Harry Lee Haynes will be the new president of Stamford Rotary Club, elected Tuesday with a slate of officers. Tom Adams named vice president, to become president in 1961. J F McCulloch reelected secretary. Dick Rowland and Jimmy West named to the board of directors. Haynes will be Stamford native and delegate to the Rotary International convention in Miami. Weldon Holbrooks presented a program on Sheep Shape FFA work featuring John Bill Oman and four FFA youths guests Don Newquist Jerr Hill Roy Goodloe Darrell Haver.

Historic Swenson Ranch HQ Destroyed by Fire
A long prominent Jones County landmark, the Ellerslie Ranch house eight miles southwest of Stamford, burned to the ground late Monday night leaving only a chimney. The seven room structure housed the Mesi can family who escaped with bed clothing. Cleo Jones, current owner since 1947, reported the loss of a building tied to the Swenson brothers and the LMS ranch origin. Fire crews arrived as the structure was already demolished. no injuries reported.
