Cotton Pests Develop Immunity to Common Insecticides

Texas A&M researchers led by Perry Adkisson and S. J. Nemec report bollworm and tobacco budworm have grown highly resistant to many insecticides since 1960. Tests show reduced kill rates in 1965 versus 1964, with DDT endrin and Strobane less effective. Extension recommendations include Strobane-DDT methyl parathion or Azodrin and mixing strategies being explored to counter resistance.
