Texas Cowboy Reunion Opens With 62 Cowgirl Sponsors
The 386th Texas Cowboy Reunion hosts 62 cowgirl sponsors for a weekend of riding and entertainment. Miss Martha Rollins of Stamford carries contestant number one while no entrant wears number thirteen. Activities begin Friday at 9 a.m. with registration and a 4 p.m giant parade, followed by a Saturday 9 a.m. start and a sponsor breakfast. Mrs. Jacl Watson hosts a 2 to 4 p.m. coke party, and sponsor contest chairman A J Mills notes no after show or slack racing. all entrants perform in the first three rodeo performances with the 10 fastest time advancing to finals.

The 36th annual Texas Cowboy Reunion in Stamford runs Friday to Monday with a large parade led by the Hardin-Simmons University Cowboy Band and Miss Schrenia Clark. Cowboy contestants from Brownwood, Jacksboro, San Angelo and O’Donnell join 349+ entrants, as 8 p.m. rodeo performances and a 2 p.m. Monday matinee draw crowds from Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Funeral Services Are Held Monday For Roy A. Duke
Funeral rites for Roy A. Duke 70 owner of Duke Butane and Appliance Co were held at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Southerland officiating. Burial followed at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Duke died Saturday evening in Stamford Memorial Hospital after a one day illness. He served as a State Guard captain in WWII and owned the appliance business since 1934. Survivors include his wife a daughter a son a brother two sisters and six grandchildren.

Paul C. Jackson 79 died May 29 in Houston. He piloted Will Rogers away from the Texas Cowboy Reunion in 1935 after Rogers, then incognito, was recognized by the crowd and asked to fly to Abilene to escape autograph seekers.
