Woman Dies in Holiday Auto Wrecks Near Stamford
A rash of Monday wrecks in and around Stamford caused heavy property damage and one fatality. Police Chief B Q Cooper said four wrecks occurred within city limits, with no serious injuries reported. A Tuesday 12:15 a.m. crash seven miles south on Hwy 277 killed Peggy Moore West, 35, Anson mother of five.

Specialist 4 Joseph Moreno of Stamford has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal for heroism in Vietnam. While serving as a medical aidman on February 9, 1966 near My Canh he exposed himself to a minefield to aid four wounded comrades and carried a seriously injured man to safety before assisting in evacuation. His actions reflected credit on the United States Army and his unit.
