A junior cowboy contest joins the Texas Cowboy reunion with a winner under two years old to receive a specially made saddle. Jack M. Little of Dallas earns the prize. second place gets chaps. Entry is $2, free passes to the fair eco grandstand tent. Submissions close by July 10 at 10 a.m. Contest runs at 2 and 3.
The article lists judges Knox Pittard of Anson Sid Mc Adams of Abilene and E H Mc Clure of Dallas for the horse contest and notes Dr Dallas South ard chairs the committee in charge of the new feature with emphasis on formation appearance and equipment at twenty percent.
Gulf Oil Corporation will supply sound equipment for the Cowboy Reunion with BE. R. Pace as Gulf Agent stating four microphones will be available. One set goes to the rodeo arena and another to the cowboy bunkhouse with the rest as needed. The gear, worth $10,000, was used at the Pan American exposition in Dallas. Ice water will be provided and a barrel placed at the southeast square service station uptown.
Sanford Hodge announces Braddock Louis World heavyweight championship fight footage will be shown at the Grand and Ritz theatres in Stamford as part of Reunion events. The broadcasts recreate the Chicago bout round by round for 25 cents with limited showings on July 2 and 3.
The Church School holds its general assembly Sunday at 9 AM with a Stephen F. Foster program for the anniversary of the songwriter. Morning worship starts at 10 and the pastor will preach on Can A Christian Be a Nationalist. Evening service at 8 in the basement auditorium. Wednesday evening service grows, centered on Childhood Memories with Jesus and A Child devotion. Good News period is helpful.
West Texas women urged to rename home maker in a Radio KGKL KRBC contest run by West Texas Utilities Co. Prizes total about 500 dollars with a large electric refrigerator as grand prize. Contest runs six weeks from July 5 with on air details at 9 15 Abilene 9 30 San Angelo.
The Summer Conference of the Presbyterian Young People from this region will be held at Presbyterian Park in Buffalo Gap from July 7 to 14. About 100 delegates, ages 15 to 23, are expected. The $7 fee covers most costs. Courses include personal problems Christian living and missions. Dr. Wm Ralph Hall will be dean. Rev. Wm Rogan leads local arrangements.
W Terrell chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission will attend the Texas Cowboy Reunion on Friday July 2 as a distinguished visitor. A native of Wise county he owns a small ranch there and has held roles from county attorney to state senator before becoming railroad commissioner.
Spirited music sets the mood for rodeo performances and the grand parade of the Cowboy Reunion. The Abilene Eagles directed by R T Bynum join at least six bands including Aspermont Anson Stamford Breckenridge Cisco and Haskell in Friday parade and each day’s rodeo shows feature morning and afternoon concerts.
The church will not hold preaching services this Sunday July 11 due to the pastor's absence while serving as director of the Young People's Conference at Buffalo Gap from July 7 to 14. Services begin this evening at 7 45.
Miss Ruthy Miles daughter of Mr and Mrs W Z Miles Route 1 Stamford will teach in the San Angelo Public school system next year. E H Farrington director of the Placement Office at North Texas State Teachers College Denton confirms. Miles is among 243 seniors to receive the bachelor’s degree in education at Denton. She was a member of Literary Society and West Texas Club.
