Avoca news notes a minister heading to a Montana mission. The week includes visits by Elva Lou Swift and Maude Watts to Avoca relatives, several Abilene and Amarillo visitors, and local family gatherings. A rattlesnake was killed by Burchard youths in Avoca, three and a half feet long with four rattles.
Front page notes at the Ben Whitley home mention a Summer Youth Program. Weekend visitors include Mrs. Ira England of Abilene visiting her sister Mrs. Mollie Grimes in Clyde. Family celebration at the Grimes home features a dinner in Clyde with Ted Dement hosting. The day closed with a garden party at Van Grimes’ home for his birthday with ice cream and cake. Nearby, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Watts attended the Blue Grass Festival in Buffalo Gap. Mindy Watts hosted cousin Greg Pace and Lisa King of Abilene, who visited then stayed for the weekend. The Avoca Home Demonstration Club met in Leeders with six members and one guest. Alma Foster spoke on pickles and relishes. Reverend Chuck Gafford will serve in Dillon, Montana for a week with Builders for Christ, while Terry Biggs of Abilene preaches at the Baptist Church. Father’s Day visitors at Eugene Watts home include Jerry Mueller and family of Stamford, Glen West and Charlotte of Abilene, Chester Clinkenbeard of Stamford, and Archie Whitworth.
The Skiles family will gather at the Bunkhouse on the Stamford rodeo grounds on June 24 and 25. Saturday hosts fellowship games and refreshments. Sunday features a noon covered dish lunch and a 2 p.m. business meeting.
