School Consolidation Election Set July 8 in Lueders Avoca
Avoca and Lueders citizens vote July 8 on merging the two districts. County Judge Leon Thurman dates the election after petitions were certified. polling runs 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in district schoolhouses. Voters need not own property to vote. consolidation would force bonded debt assumption under a fall constitutional amendment. The Lueders district carries about $100,000 in debt while Avoca has none. a merged system would keep a Avoca high school and a Lueders elementary.

Five Applicants Interviewed For Stamford City Manager Post
Stamford city council interviewed five candidates for the city manager job on Thursday and may hear one or two more this week. Mayor H G Andrews said several good applicants exist and a successor will be chosen to meet Stamford's needs. Har ry Steenson will remain as acting manager until the new appointee is trained. Steenson resigned effective June 15 and attended the state city managers convention in Galveston with Mrs Steenson.

Auto Crash Injures Stamford Couple
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nieto were injured in a one car accident early Sunday on South Swenson when their vehicle struck a highline pole. Mrs. Nieto sustained facial cuts and bruises and is hospitalized at Stamford Memorial. Mr. Nieto has bruises. The car was heavily damaged.
