Corby Becomes Licensed Architect After Exams

Grady R. Corby of Stamford is licensed as a registered architect by the state board in Austin after passing seven exams totaling 36 hours. A Texas Tech graduate, he lives in Abilene with wife Gladys and children Ray and Kathleen, and works for Boone and Pope. He also serves as a marine captain and executive officer of the Abilene Marine Reserve company.

Christ Lutheran To Install New Pastor

Stamford Council to Interview City Manager Prospects

The Stamford city council will interview five applicants for city manager at a special Thursday meeting at 4 PM. City Manager Harry Steenson, in office since 1952, has submitted his resignation effective June 15 but will stay until a successor is found. Mayor H G Andrews Jr. said 13 applications have been received and more interviews may occur later, not at Friday's regular meeting.

New Hospital Plans Win State U S Approval

Plans for Stamford Memorial Hospital worth a million dollars received final state and federal approval in Dallas on Tuesday. John Martin says bids may open around August 15. J F West and Martin, with architects Tittle Luther and Lovern, reviewed plans with Hill Burton officials and the Texas Department of Health. The 50 room hospital will sit southeast of town on Highway 380 and be financed half by Hill Burton grants and half by a $500 000 district bond issue. The building is designed for future expansion with minimal cost.

Stamford District Adopts Three Class Automobile Tax Schedule

The Stamford school district will tax personal automobiles starting next year with three classes small medium large. 1967 values are 300 600 3850 and 1966 values 250 500 750. older than 62 or 61 are exempt or dropped. A one year hospital cost-sharing agreement and a two year depository contract were approved.

Grand Jury to Meet in 104th District Court Anson

The 104th District Court grand jury will convene in Anson on Monday to consider new complaints filed. Carl Swenson of Stamford serves as foreman. Also, the Jones County Fair Board of Directors meets at Sirloin Cafe in Anson at 7 00 p.m. Thursday June 15 1967. Please be present.

Additional Rain Reported Across Stamford Area This Week

Rainfall varied around Stamford with inch plus totals in some communities while others saw only traces. Milburn Thompson noted 37 inches Saturday night and 53 inches Monday morning. Thunder and lightning caused property damage in places. overpasses and areas between Stamford and Corinth received heavier rainfall. Farmers proceed with planting though moisture remains uneven.

Meeting to Discuss Avoca Lueders School Consolidation Tonight

Residents of Avoca and Lueders join in a Thursday night meeting at the Lueders school auditorium to review a tentative consolidation plan. Officials from both districts and state education authorities will discuss the proposal, taxes, debt sharing, and grade arrangements for a combined district.

Palomino Show at Texas Cowboy Reunion July 2

The Palomino show proceeds Sunday July 2 in Stamford despite a stroke. Cecil Eager leads the event with Mrs. Eager and others assisting. Judge Gilbert W. Summer Work Program Set For Students

A summer work program for youths from low income families runs here this summer. Students aged 16 to 21 may enroll in the National Youth Corps Summer Work Program on Monday June 19 at 8 30 a.m. at the high school. Participants will work at the mills at various jobs for 28 hours a week and earn 1 25 dollars per hour. Application blanks are available at the school office and the office can be reached at PR 3 2705 for more information.

Two Burglaries Reported In Stamford

Two burglaries were reported to the Stamford Police Department Wednesday morning. The Masters Phillips 66 Station on West McHarg Street was entered by breaking a window and about 60 cents in pennies was taken. L and F Construction Co occupying the old Sham burger Lumber Co plant reported theft of used batteries and gasoline.

county buys two road maintainers from treanor equipment

Jones County commissioners opened bids for two road graders with Treanor Equipment Co of Abilene the sole bidder. Johnny Agnew Precinct 1 paid 5100 for an old maintainer with a 17.35 gap. Tom Boyd Precinct 2 paid 10000 for a rebuilt used maintainer and an old grader. A four mile Precinct 4 farm to market road was approved, the Hamlin McCauley school consolidation vote was canvassed with Hamlin approving and McCauley rejecting, and a welfare worker is assigned to the area with office moves planned. The court also acts as a board of equalization this week reviewing tax assessments. Mrs Byron Lewis visited Dr and Mrs Glen Lewis and Renee for ten days.
