Stamford Council Passes Two Ordinances on Phone Rate Structure
The Stamford City Council approved on first reading two ordinances setting the base rate of Southwestern Bell within city limits and addressing related items. George Beard of the telephone company said no rate increase is involved and the action merely fixes area boundaries and existing base rates. Second reading will precede publication. Beard noted possible future area extensions and requested authority to discontinue four party service in Stamford where usage is minimal. He also sought approval for a 10 cent pay phone service once adopted wider.

One Cobb Store Owner Dies in West Texas
Joe Cobb, one of three brothers who run Cobb's Department Stores, died of a heart attack Wednesday at his Lubbock home. The Stamford store will close all day Thursday and the Webb couple will attend the funeral at 4 PM at First Christian Church. Cobb and his brothers, Bob and Tom, often visited Stamford.

Clarence W. Erdman, 27, died of a heart attack Tuesday at 5 30 a m while loading cattle for a trip to Abilene. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Stamford Sanitarium. Funeral Friday at 4 p m Zion Lutheran Sagerton burial Old Brandenburg Kinney Funeral Home in charge. Born August 1 1928 in Stonewall county he lived there all his life. Mrs Wiley's Brother Dies in California Hospital
Marvin A. Jordan of Shaster California, brother of Mrs. Floyd Wiley of Stamford, died June 12 after three weeks in Bakersfield Hospital. Mrs. Wiley had returned home shortly before his death on Tuesday, and Mr. Jordan lived here as a boy.

In a local fishing tournament at College Lake, 39 entries included five girls. No bass or crappie were caught, so prizes were drawn after the event. Winners include Mike Graham six, with a seven and a half inch catfish plus a nylon line. Charles Young twelve, with a six and three quarter inch catfish. Mike Reves eleven, winning a reel in the perch division. Jeff Fowler seven, a minnow bucket. Randell Graham eight, a nylon line. The first fish by a six year old girl was Jimmie Dell Graham, who received a fish stringer. Stanley McKeever led the event with help from local residents and a Coca Cola volunteer serving drinks from a portable dispenser.

Mrs J E Graham aged 94 of Eastland died June 15 at her daughter’s home where she had lived for 15 years. She was the mother of Stamford resident Mrs B W Feris and wife of a late husband. Funeral was held in Eastland with burial there. Six of her children survive including Matt Graham of Colorado City. The Feris party traveled to Eastland June 8 for the funeral arrangements.

Bobby Wayne Cox of Stamford has qualified for entrance to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis Maryland and is scheduled to report June 25 for admission. He is the second son of Mr and Mrs Herman Cox. Cox recently completed his freshman year at Arlington State College where he sang in the college choir and belonged to Phi Kappa Theta and the Engineering Society. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1955 and played for the Stamford football team.
