Through Highway From Amarillo To Galveston Planned

A meeting of representatives from towns along the proposed through highway from Amarillo to Galveston via Lubbock Spur Stamford Cisco Hico and Waco will be held in Hico Friday afternoon per Stamford Chamber of Commerce. The focus is closing gaps from Stamford to Waco including a 12 mile gap between Cisco and Moran in Eastland and gaps between De Leon and Waco.

Baptist Pastor to Be Away Four Weeks on Visit

Rev. W. C. Moffet, pastor of the First Baptist church, will travel to Washington D C with Mrs. Moffett and the children for about four weeks. Visiting preachers will fill the morning pulpit and church organizations will lead Sunday evening services. Rev. C D Owens, Jones county missionary, preaches next Sunday morning. W M S leads the evening.

Hamilton Case Is Transferred To Weatherford

Amarillo June 19. R H Hamilton will be tried in Weatherford probably not before November for shooting to death his son in law Tom Walton Jr 21 here May 4. Venue motion granted the county where trial will be held is to be agreed. Weatherford Fall term opens Sept 30 with docket Oct 7, likely delaying trial. Theresa 19 testified he would not oppose her marriage if they finished school.

22 Farmers Sign Up For Proposed New Cream Route

Stamford Chamber of Commerce and the county demonstration agent organize a new cream route serving east and northeast Stamford. Twenty two farmers with cows producing over 300 gallons daily have signed up. The plan combines an ice route with the cream route, delivering ice while picking up cream.

Man Arrested In Robbery Attempt Breaks Out Jail

Willie Kerns and an accomplice attempted a burglary at Walker Smith Wholesale Grocer Co. in Stamford. They entered via basement window and pried a lock, loading a Ford with cigarettes gum and thread. Kerns, jailed earlier for liquor transport, escaped again using a bed sheet rope after a window was pulled free.

Oil Men Meet at Inn in All Day Session

An all-day meeting of Texas Company officials and agents was held Wednesday at the Inn with Andy Turner in charge. Attendees included W. H. Noble R. P. Elliott Will Carroll and Mr Clemons of Dallas and ten agents from the district. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Lewis went shopping in Abilene Wednesday.

National Exchange Club Rep Arrives for Texas Affiliated Meet

Charles J. Keil of the National Exchange Club Toledo arrives in Stamford to attend the Fourth Annual Convention of Texas Affiliated Exchange Clubs. He will aid the Stamford club in boosting membership and publicize the city’s role in the exchange network. West Texas leaders and four Texas newspapers will attend the round-up, with editors from Abilene, Fort Worth, Dallas, and Wichita Falls among attendees.

Superior Oil rep reviews Reynold's field wells in Stamford

Frank Neely of Superior Oil Co. visited Stamford to inspect three producing wells from 1750 feet in the Reynold's field. Reynold's No. 4 topped the sand at 1794 feet with oil and gas, awaiting deeper drilling to determine value. Water appeared in Reynold's No. 5 Thursday morning.

Anson S S Class Visitors At St John’s Methodist

About 65 members of the Anson S S Class visited St John’s Methodist Church on Sunday. E M Gonnell, Anson public schools superintendent, spoke at the joint Sunday School hour. Otis Miller, county attorney and Anson class president, gave the sermon. A noon dinner for the men from both classes followed, served by the Women’s Missionary Society.

Stam ford hosts the 1929 Texas Affiliated Exchange Clubs convention with about 150 Exchangies anticipated. Dr Ira C Chase of Fort Worth calls the meeting to order at 10 am. The day features state officer addresses, a model luncheon, a ranch round-up at an S M S ranch, and a chuck wagon dinner.

Boundaries Set For Territory To Be Served By New Elementary School

The Stamford County Line Independent School District outlines the Reynolds Elementary area boundaries north by Hamilton Street line east, Wichita Valley Railroad to South Swenson, then Swenson or New Hope Road to district edge. Transported pupils will be served by all district schools. first to third graders in this section may start at Reynolds on opening day, Monday September 9.

Bourland to Succeed Wade as West Texas Chamber Manager

A. M. Bourland president of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce will assume Wade's duties as manager after Abilene directors met in executive session. Bourland will serve until the annual convention in El Paso this fall. Wade resigned to join the Dallas Chamber.

Legion To Hold Chicken Barbecue On July Fourth

Ray Rector Visits Odd Fellows Homes in Texas

Ray Rector deputy grand master of the Odd Fellows Grand Lodge of Texas visited Dallas Ennis and Corsicana last Friday to Sunday. He spoke at the Dallas County Odd Fellows Association meeting and toured the Old Folks Home at Ennis and the Odd Fellows Orphans Home at Corsicana. Rector urged support for the Texas homes as essential to the order. Miss Brucille Bryant of Haskell visited with Miss Maebelle Baird.
