Stamford summer fun program aids Tri County children

A six day pilot Summer Fun Program in Stamford serves 23 Tri County Education Cooperative children with music stories crafts and refreshments. Teenage volunteers guide activities led by Arlene Teichelman with Donna Hooten Denise Dennis and Lesvna Cantu assisting. police bicycle safety and visits to the Stamford Fire Department and Nelson Park Zoo are planned.

District judge attends jurists school in Reno Nev

J Neal Daniel judge of the 104th District Court is in Reno attending a four week jurists school. The session ends July 4 and he is not expected back in Anson before July 1. In the interim other area judges fill in. Wednesday Judge Weldon Kirk of Sweet Water was to hear a sanity case and any other ready trials.

County bond sales top $88,750 in four months

Sales of Series E and H United States Savings Bonds in Jones County totaled $8,049. County Bond Chairman A C Humphrey reported that four months of sales reached $88,754, achieving 23 percent of the 1974 $380,000 goal.

Stamford CofC Opposes Highway 277 Bypass Plan

The Stamford Chamber of Commerce opposes rerouting Highway 277 that would bypass Stamford. Petitions against the plan circulated among about 100 residents while city leaders asked for state aid to pursue the project. The chamber asks a study to relieve truck traffic but rejects bypass routing that would bypass the town.

Fifteen members of the Willing Workers Class of First Baptist Church gathered at Mrs. T. R. Tinsley’s home Thursday night June 14 for a back yard picnic. Mrs. C. M. Lester gave the devotional and Mrs Duff presided.

Stamford Bloodmobile Surpasses Quota Amid Strong Donor Turnout

Stamford exceeded its blood drive quota with 95 productive units from 109 potential donors at the Red River Regional Blood Bank visit in Wichita Falls. First time donors numbered 36, with A positive and C positive the majority. Local groups Lions Club and Stamford Young Farmers led donor participation, and a long volunteer list backed the effort.

Housewives to operate Paint Pot opens in Stamford

Three Stamford housewives plan an open house for The Paint Pot at 1221 Park Sis McCown with Gwen Osment and Jan White. They offer hobby and craft materials and lessons in painting making box purses and decoupage. The shop will be open 9 to 5 six days weekly starting Monday.

Cotton insect office opens in Anson for early season program

The Jones County Boll Weevil office in Anson opened June 17 to enroll participants in the early cotton insect control plan. supervised by Mrs. Peggy Propst, the office runs one month from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on North Commercial Street, with state funds again available on a matching basis.

Local firm to open branch office in Haskell

First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Stamford wins approval to open a full service branch on the east side of the square in Haskell. Gary Mathews says the office will handle all savings transactions and likely open in about 60 days with an open house after the debut. Manager applications are being taken and two jobs may follow. hours will mirror the main office from 9 to 4, five days a week.

Pavillion at rodeo grounds gets complete face lift

Carpentry electrical and plumbing crews work this week on the Texas Cowboy Reunion pavillion at the rodeo grounds. The structure once split stalls now houses an air conditioned ground floor gallery with rough cedar walls and special lighting to spotlight artworks. Pedestals built by Stamford Mayor I F Hudson stand ready as the Stamford Art Foundation sponsors the show.

Optometrist Introduces Noncontact Eye Pressure Test

Stamford resident Dr. C. L. Cromwell offers a none contact electronic tonometer to measure intraocular pressure for glaucoma screening. The painless test uses air pressure and requires no anesthetic, with about 20 patients tested and no cases of dangerously high pressure found.

A C Ross to be buried in New Hope Cemetery

A C Ross 74 retired farmer died Tuesday evening at Stamford Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Funeral 2 30 p m Thursday at Assembly of God Church with burial in New Hope Cemetery under Kinney Funeral Home. Born January 3 1900 in Eunice Louisiana he moved to Texas in 1903 and to Jones County in 1912. He married Ida Dean Hawley November 17 1941 at Walters Ohio. She died January 22 19. Nephews will be pallbearers. Survivors include three sisters Mrs Jess Mickler Mrs Zephyr Brown both of Stamford and Mrs Corrine Adams of Hamlin and 16 nieces and nephews.

Hospital district expansion hearing set in Anson

A hearing on the Stamford Hospital District expansion is scheduled for Friday morning June 1 in Anson. Dist Judge C V Milburn will preside, over a suit filed in December by taxpayers challenging the district's expansion.

Friday May 14 the Braves beat the Dodgers 1 to 0 as the Braves score in the fifth inning and Dodgers fail to score in the sixth. Mike Cox and Mike Moreno pitched for the Braves with Moreno contributing two singles. For the Dodgers Gross and Raymond Moreno had hits.
