Art added to 1974 Cowboy Reunion

The 1974 Texas Cowboy Reunion adds a Western Art Show and Sale in Stamford featuring 33 artists from Texas and beyond. The John Selmon Memorial Gallery will be dedicated at 4:45 p.m. July 1 with Rex Allen presiding. Proceeds go to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center. admission is $1. A collectors preview runs 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with national attendees expected.

Three Day Quarter Horse Show at Texas Cowboy Reunion

The 1974 Texas Cowboy Reunion Quarter Horse Show runs July 2 to 4 with three shows: open youth activity, AQHA approved show, and AQHA youth activity. Judges include Billy Steele of Pinehurst. Events feature halter, performance, and youth divisions with prizes such as saddles, ribbons, and cash. Charles Stenholm chairs the event with first come, first served stalls and entry deadline before showing.

Stamford School Board Approves 10 Percent Levy Increase

In a special meeting the Stamford school board authorized a 10 percent rise in district assessed valuation to fund higher costs for 1973-74 and to finance pay for a new athletic director and head football coach Bill Anderson. A district equalization meeting is set for July 10-12 at 9 a.m. in the superintendent’s office.

Oldtimers Plan Three-Day Texas Cowboy Reunion

The Oldtimers organization hosts three days of events on July 24 including fellowship in the bunkhouse, chuckwagon dinners, and a Wednesday business meeting at 10 a.m. with speaker Bryan Bradbury. A memorial service follows at 2 p.m., and Thursday features a fiddlers contest at 9:30 a.m. with prizes totaling 125 dollars. Outgoing president Earl Brown leads the group with officers Skipworth Bland and Mrs. Frank Cannon among the leadership.

Stamford council approves water sale and service rate ordinance

The Stamford city council in regular session adopted Ordinance No. 487 setting city water service fees for disconnects and reconnects and approved a contract to sell water to four residents planning homes on FM 142 east of Stamford. The panel also appointed two board members and discussed U S 277 rerouting with letters from Sweetwater Merkel and local business groups.

Toll free calling to start in three towns next Monday

Hamlin Anson and Stamford prepare to launch Extended Area Service on July 1 with Southwestern Bell installing equipment and burying cable. The plan adds about 5100 toll free numbers and changes monthly rates pro rata. residents urged to consult a 35 page joint directory before dialing seven digit numbers.

Texas Cowboy Reunion action starts next week

The 44th Texas Cowboy Reunion begins Tuesday July 2 with a grand parade at 4 p.m. in the town square route along EF Oliver Street McHarg Street and Anson Street before returning to the square. Rodeo performances run July 2 3 and 4 with LeRoy Van Dyke appearing July 3. judges include John Stotts George Humphreys Bobby Wedeking and Spencer Baize. Western art shows and chuck wagon meals add to the three day event alongside oldtime fiddlers dances and Quarter Horse shows.

Patriotic service planned Sunday in Stamford

The Stamford community will hold a Sunday night patriotic service at 7 30 p m in the Stamford High School Auditorium. Sponsored by the Stamford Ministerial Alliance the event honors God and country with a military color guard special music and guests Dr Guy Newman and Maj James Berger.

District court rules against Stamford hospital district in suit

Judge C V Milburn granted an injunction against tax collection as he ruled for opponents of the Stamford district expansion. The hospital district plans to appeal to the Civil Court of Appeals at Eastland, with possible progression to the Texas Supreme Court.
