Tragic Accidental Hanging of 14YearOld Playing Cowboy
Franklin Lloyd Loop, 14, son of Mr and Mrs R L Loop of Houston formerly of Stamford, died after an eight foot Boy Scout rope looped about his neck while playing on a sleeping porch. Imogene, 8, sister, witnessed the incident as the family was away. Justice of the Peace ruled mental death. The youth had attended Stone Jackson Junior High and was active in Boy Scouts and the American Legion. Funeral held Saturday in Houston after his removal there.

Storm Ravages Stamford Area Causing Major Property Loss
A weekend wind storm and heavy rain struck Stamford and surrounding areas, causing more than 10000 dollars in damage. Hospitals faced power issues, several businesses and homes lost windows, and a large mill seed house roof was torn. Second Test to Be Drilled on Appling Land Near Stamford
Grisham-Hunter Corporation rigs up Wednesday for a second test on E. D. Appling land in the southwest quarter of section 32 BBB&C, four miles southeast of Stamford. No. 1 test previously found oil in upper horizons but was not completed. a new test at upper pay levels is planned. Music School to Open in Stamford This July
Four local men will form the faculty of a Stamps Baxter music school in Stamford starting July 11 for 18 days. Lester Baize of Tuxedo teaches harmony and piano, C M Watson of Stamford handles band instruments, Henry Shipp of Stamford covers voice and music fundamentals, and Fred Bennett teaches ear training and sight singing. The announcement follows a singing convention at the First Baptist Church on Sunday July 10.

Forty Six Girls Enter County Clothing Meet at Anson
Six winners were chosen in the Jones county 4-H clothing contest held in Anson last Saturday. Sixty six girls entered with seven demonstrators and 39 cooperators. The 4-H winners will attend the Short Course at College Station July 6 to 8 following the June 18 canning contest in Anson.

Baby Finds Tacks Bad for the Throat
Mrs. F. E. Upshaw rushed her 14 month old daughter Betty to the hospital after the child began choking on a tack found during an "investigating tour" at the family home on Wella avenue. Dr De La Metz probed and removed the tack, leaving Betty smiling and none the worse for the experience.

County health unit plan advances in Jones County
A Jones County commissioners meeting Tuesday convened a new committee to explore financing a county health unit. Dr F L Hudson of Stamford chairs a group including Mra Ernest Pittman Anson M M Collins Hawley Dr Gentry Hamlin and others from Hawley Lueders Anson and Stamford.
