The ninth annual Texas Cowboy Reunion in Stamford July 4 5 6 will feature 200 top cowhands competing for 2300 in prizes. Six or more bands parade with entries from Abilene Cisco Bree Haskell Stamford and others. A decorated float division offers cash prizes up to 25 for commercial entries and 10 for best ranch and out-of-town entries.

30 Leaders in National Guard Attend School
Major Oscar B Abbott led a troop leadership school in Stamford attended by 30 officers and NCOs from Breckenridge Wichita Falls Snyder Sweetwater Abilene and Stamford. The sessions prep for mass maneuvers at Camp Bullis starting August 6 with Texas New Mexico Arizona and Oklahoma Guard units and Eighth Corps regulars. The Bomar Heights school building in the west part of the city is being reconditioned for use as a WPA sewing room. Window lights were replaced and screens added. wiring and sewage fixtures are being installed. The sewing room will reopen there on June 27.

Third Well is Ready to Spud North of City
Forrest Development Corporation of Abilene was to spud the third test for the new southern Haskell county producing area about five and a half miles north of Stamford. The No. 1 Bankers Life Insurance Company test site lies on a 40 acre tract from the J. F. Morgan survey, with H. D. Grace holding the drilling contract. In other drills, Grisham-Hunter Corporation completed a second test on KF. D. Appling land southwest of Stamford, Iron Mountain No. 1 Herbst nears 2925 feet on a 4200 foot contract, and Hammonds No. 1 Manaker northeast outpost to the Ivy pot advances toward the Adamas Branch horizon. A inquest found Jimmie Leslie Sparks died from a personal safety related shotgun wound. The 14 year old was found dead in his car on South Swansea Avenue with a 410 shotgun across his lap and a note to his wife. Funeral services set at Methwell church in Lueders with burial in Norin Creek cemetery.

Interest Rate Cut Affects 363 Farm Loans Here
Federal legislation extends two years the reduced interest rates on Federal Land Bank and Commissioner loans. The Stamford association reports 263 loans totaling 026,900 will be affected, with Land Bank breaks at 3.5 percent and Commissioner loans at 4 percent through July 1, 1940, after which contract rates apply.

Improvements on Stamford Water System by WPA Project
The Washington approved project will upgrade Stamford water facilities with riprap on the dam and rock lining of the old settling basin near the Parmip station. An emergency storage tank will be created by splitting the basin in two, aiding service if the main tank fails. Work awaits orders from the San Antonio office and will employ most WPA crews for the year.

Samford Booster Trip Promotes Texas Reunion Effort
Samford's largest booster crowd of the three day trip left Thursday morning to invite towns toward the Texas Cowboy reunion. Sponsored by Stamford Chamber of Commerce, the jaunt included about 50 participants traveling to Anson Hawley and Abilene for a 14 station radio broadcast on KRBC. L. W. Jolneson led ceremonies. W. G. Sweneen, president of the reunion, outlined improvements. Abilene's Hunter and Caldwell of Abilene were introduced. music featured Rambiers as they played on route through Merkel, Rosene, Sayer, Hamlin, and Tatteste.

Harvest Nears End as 69 Cars Wheat Shipped
With 85 to 0 percent harvested in parts of the region, Stamford reports about 69 cars of wheat shipped by rail. Much of the crop stored due to low prices.
