New City Grocery moves to 301 S Wetherbee in Stamford into a 12 000 square foot concrete block building with five cash registers and 3 900 square feet of parking. Major stockholder and manager Bill Williams notes local labor and materials were used. Clifford Beggs of Beggs Wholesale buys stock to form a corporation. Long time staff include Dwain Wardwell and Opal Strickland.

City Council Approves Tax Valuation Survey Use
In a June 5 regular meeting the City Council adopted a resolution authorizing the city manager to use valuations from the 1968 Davis & Wilson tax survey. The survey cost was shared with Stamford County Line Independent School District. The council directed the city manager to present the total assessed valuations at the June 19 meeting when the tax rate would be set. For Western Day activities the Chamber of Commerce inner square area near the Post Office was approved for June 25 and 26.
