Stamford Lions Club plans a polio immunization drive June 28 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the High School Gym. The State Department of Health provides vaccine while Lions supply labor and materials. Target ages six weeks to 19 years. A steering committee led by Woodie Beene will oversee the effort.

The Stamford school board named Johnny Grissom tax assessor-collector effective July 1 replacing R E F Hall. Stamford High School sends three girls to Seguin for Bluebonnet Girls State led by the American Legion Auxiliary. Claudia Bunkley is sponsored by the Rotary Club, Gail Prewit by the Exchange Club as alternate, and Missy Watson by the American Legion Auxiliary. Sharon Richards did not attend. Fire chief Bill Lawson reports 12 grass fires in the city this month and one on a farm caused by carelessness. Each call costs 30 minutes to an hour for the department. None caused serious damage. The fire department also made eight ambulance runs this month.

Darryl Blackwell of Iowa Park was first to register for calf roping double mugging bus riding bare bronc riding and the wild mare race at the Texas Cowboy Reunion. Local Hospital Seeks Hill Burton Funds for Upgrades
Stamford Hospital District seeks 67100 more from the Hill Burton Fund to fund landscaping an elevator incinerator and heart monitoring gear. Administrator John Martin said a prior 125000 building-use request was denied as federal cuts reduced Texas Hill Burton funds from 36 million to 24 million. The district has 500000 in Hill Burton money and total project cost around 1,975,000.

Kidney Transplant Recipient Gifted With Coupons
Mrs Howard Kohout and the 6th Grade Sunday School of Furst Baptist Church received a letter of appreciation from Larry Ro Parks of Ashville Ohio. The class collected Betty Crocker coupons to be used for an artificial kidney for Larry who studied at Wayland Baptist College. Larry later had a transplant and by May 1 was helping build a new sanctuary and supplying preaching.
