City Council Awards Paving Contract to Abilene Company

The Stamford City Council awarded a resurfacing contract to Abilene Paving Co for a two course hot topping of several city streets. Low bid priced at 26.5 cents per square yard for 30 342 square yards and 19 dollars per ton for mix. Vanderbilt Wesleyan and Dodson Hills Edition streets listed among sites to be resurfaced with street leveling and repairs prior to paving.

Nursing School Homecoming Brings Graduates To Stamford

The Stamford Registered Nurses Alumnae held its first homecoming since the school's opening in 1923 and first graduation in 1926. About 35 graduates attended May 29 30 events including registration tea at Mrs Ryland Gleaton and a Stamford Country Club dinner. A Sunday breakfast at Cliff House capped the reunion with many alums from Stamford and Texas towns.

Larry Dippel named new coach for Stamford Bulldogs

Larry Dippel, a former Stamford Bulldog, is hired as assistant football coach at Stamford High School replacing Don Edwards who resigned and moved to a local life insurance agent post. Dippel was part of the 1958 Stamford state championship team and later coached at Carroll High School in Corpus Christi and Victoria High School.

Kelley To Head Seed Crushers Convention

Roland R. Kelley of Stamford will preside at the 71st annual Texas Cottonseed Crushers Association convention in Houston at the Shamrock Hilton Hotel on June 14 and 15. Mrs. Ryland Gleaton selected as official hostess for the 1965 Texas Cowboy Reunion. Stamford hospital anesthetist since 1934, she is active in civic affairs and church work. Showers Delay Wheat Harvest in Stamford

Stamford records 60 inches of rainfall in the past week with two showers on June 4 and June 7, totaling 12.96 inches for the year. The late rains slowed wheat harvest but subsequent drying conditions improve field work and harvest progress.

Boiler Parts Arrive for Jones County Courthouse

Parts for the new boiler arrive for the Jones County courthouse basement and installation is set to begin soon. County Judge Leon Thurman said Adrian Webb Plumbing Co. of Abilene holds the contract to install the cast iron boiler at a cost of $2130.

Fire damages Hilscher home in rapid blaze

A fire at 909 FE Hamilton St damaged the home of Frank Hilscher late Sunday. Reported at 10:40 p.m., the blaze was under control in about 20 minutes. Fire Chief Dick Rowland estimated the loss at several thousand dollars with building and contents damage not yet fully assessed.
