The home of Mrs L F E Wofford at 913 Columbia was damaged by fire last Wednesday afternoon. Fire department reports say the blaze started in a bathroom heater. Alarm at 2:00 pm, fire under control by 2 18 pm, confined mainly to the bathroom and hallway with some adjoining bedroom damage. Estimated loss over $5 000.

Survivors include her husband Lee, a daughter Mrs. Paul Davis of Abilene, two grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters. Pallbearers are M. Officers and 51 enlisted men from Stamford Battery C, 1st Battalion 131st Artillery depart June 6 from Fort Hood for a two week training, joining Texas 36th Infantry Division. The unit forms a 4:00 am convoy at the armory to Abilene before proceeding to Fort Hood.

Funeral services for Mrs. W C Hughes 49 were held at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Temple Lewis presiding. Burial was in Spring Creek Cemetery Avoca. She died after being run over by a tractor at Stamford Memorial Hospital. She was born Ruby Mae Hughes on April 28 1916 and married W C Hughes of Avoca August 21 1932. Funeral services for Mrs Denton Black 63 were held Monday May 31 at St. John's Methodist Church with Rev. F Eugene Matthews officiating. Burial was in Highland Memorial Cemetery under Kinney Funeral Home. Mrs Black died May 29 at Stamford Memorial Hospital after a five day stay. Rain Totals in Stamford Show Month Ahead of Normal
Stamford recorded 6.35 inches of rain in May bringing year to date to a level about one third above normal. A rain shower on May 27 dropped 0.14 inch and another 0.84 inch on May 31 totaling 0.98 inch for the week. No damage reports accompanied the showers. The 1965 year total through May stands at 12.36 inches versus a normal 9.45 inches for the first five months.

Stamford hosts the 35th Texas Cowboy Reunion Association of Oldtimers July 1 to 3 with a fiddlers contest for entrants 50 and older offering four prizes from 50 to 10 dollars. Wheat harvest began slowly last week but rain halted and then slowed work, with some grain cut Sunday. By week’s end dampness kept combines out, yet yields averaged 15 to 20 bushels per acre and reached 29 in one case. Quality remains exceptionally good as cash price holds at 1.28 per bushel.

A new Spanish Church of Christ has been established at 510 S Swenson with Martin Cisneros 35 as minister. He trained at Sunset School of Preaching Lubbock and has served Floydada Hale Center and nearby areas. Services Sundays 10 to 11 Bible study and 11 to 12 preaching. Cisneros and his wife Rachel have 11 children ages 4 preschool to 15.
