Ericksdahl Farmers Combat Weeds Amid Heavy Rains
Heavy rains in the Ericksdahl area bring about 2 to 3 inches of precipitation this week while farms fight weeds in wheat and oats. Farmers use aerial spraying and tractor applications to protect fields as soils stay muddy and planting continues between showers. Bethel Lutheran Church hosts Vacation Bible School June 10 to 14 with Dr. Hugo B Haterius in charge and the Women’s Missionary Society adjusting its meeting schedule. A Willing Workers spring entertainment is slated for Thursday night at the church basement with local event films and wedding anniversary clips, pie and beverages provided by the society. Memorial Day service is held at 8 pm in the church yard cemetery conducted by Dr. Haterius with patriotic selections and a recorded sermon follow.

Sandra Swenson To Get BA Degree
Sandra Helene Swenson daughter of Mr and Mrs A M G Swenson will receive a bachelor of arts degree from the University this spring. She plans graduate work likely at the University of Texas in the fall majoring in English with Spanish minor. She studied at Wellesley College for two years before UT. Swenson is Pi Beta Phi social chair and led the Pi Beta Phi float for the Roundup and rodeo team participation. She also served as Stamford sponsor for the 1955 Texas Cowboy Reunion and was Stamford Sweetheart for the Fat Stock Show and Southwestern Exposition. She is a Stamford High graduate with ties to the Hinds and Carl Ekdahis.

Mr. and Mrs. Travis Smith and relatives from Houston and Quitman gathered for Gail Kay Smiths graduation from Haskell High School. Gail joined the National Honor Society on May 6 and planned a Quitran visit with her sister in law. Edgbert Smith traveled from Ft. Chaffee Ark to attend and Pickle Morales returned to Houston with his parents after a six week stay with his grandparents.
